My Love
artist:: Westlife

An empty street
An empty house
A hole inside my heart
I'm all alone
The rooms are getting smaller
I wonder how
I wonder why
I wonder where they are
The days we had
The songs we sang together
(oh yeah)

And, oh My love
I'm holding on forever
Reaching for a love that seems so far...

So I say a litle prayer
And hope my dreams will take me there
Where the skies are blue
To see you once again
My Love
Overseas from coast to coast
To find the place I love the most
Where the fields are green
To see you once again
My Love

I try to read
I go to work
I'm laughing with my frends
But I can't stop to keep myself from thinking
(oh no)

I wonder how
I wonder why
I wonder where they are
The days we had
The songs we sang together
(oh yeah)

And, oh My love
I'm holding on forever
Reaching for a love that seems so far...

So I say a litle prayer
And hope my dreams will take me there
Where the skies are blue
To see you once again
My Love
Overseas from coast to coast
To find the place I love the most
Where the fields are green
To see you once again ...

To hold you in my arms
To promise you, my love
To tell you from my heart
You're all I'm thinking of...

I'm reaching for a love that seems so far, so....

So I say a litle prayer
And hope my dreams will take me there
Where the skies are blue
To see you once again
My Love
Overseas from coast to coast
(Overseas...)
To find the place I love the most
(Love the most...)
Where the fields are green
To see you once again ...

My Love

So I say a litle prayer
(my sweet love)
my dreams will take me there
Where the skies are blue
(oh yeah)
To see you once again,...oh...
oh..My Love

Post-doc or PhD position Netherlands Metabolomics Center

Post-doc or PhD position Netherlands Metabolomics Center Prednisolone induced metabolite profiles in human and mouse: Crossspecies translation and cross-omics integration.

A 3-years post-doc position or 4 years PhD student position is available within the Netherlands Metabolomics Center, in a joint project between Schering- Plough, Leiden/Amsterdam Center for Drug Research (LACDR), TNO Zeist and Radboud University Medical Center Nijmegen.

Summary of the project
Prednisolone and other glucocorticoids (GCs) are very potent immunosuppressive and anti-inflammatory drugs that are used in more than 300 different indications. Although very effective, prolonged use at high dose is hampered by side effects of which especially metabolic side effects are evident. These metabolic side effects induced by prednisolone include osteoporosis but also, fat redistribution, induction of insulin-resistance and beta-cell dysfunction, leading to a serious condition that is strongly associated with elevated risk for cardiovascular disease and type 2 Diabetes. Despite the fact that prednisolone is a relatively old drug (introduced in the 50’s of the last century) the molecular mechanisms by which its side effects are mediated are largely unknown. To allow for a more rational development of an improved GC it is crucial to understand the molecular mechanisms by which prednisolone induces side effects.

In this project human healthy volunteers and mice will be treated with the synthetic glucocorticoid prednisolone. In these studies, urine, blood and serum samples will be taken and analyzed by metabolomics, transcriptomics and proteomics techniques. These data will be integrated to

  1. use state of the art techniques to increase our understanding of the biological mechanisms underlying side effects of prednisolone
  2. identify biomarkers of glucocorticoid side effects that translate from mouse to human
  3. allow for a more rational development of an improved GC.

Function description
The project is an Associate Project of the research program of the Netherlands Metabolomics Centre (http://www.metabolomicscentre.nl/). Within this centre, Core Projects are aimed at method development whereas Associate Projects apply these methods within research programs.

The project is a collaboration between teams from Schering-Plough in Oss, the Leiden/Amsterdam Center for Drug Research (LACDR) in Leiden, the Radboud University Medical Center Nijmegen and TNO in Zeist.

You will be responsible for the statistical and biological analysis of the crossomics data that are produced within the project. Analysis methods to be used include advanced statistical methods for multivariate analysis, data fusion and experimental design; pathway analysis; sequence homology analysis; text mining; integration of experimental data and prior knowledge. The focus will be on generating biological hypotheses by applying existing methods and methods that will be developed within the core projects of the NMC, rather than independently developing new statistical or bioinformatics methods. You will work together with scientists in Oss, Leiden, Zeist and Nijmegen to identify the methods that are most suitable for the goals of the project. You will discuss and where possible initiate desired new methodology development with project partners and with scientists from NMC Core Projects. You will also be responsible for initiating and analyzing additional in-vitro or in-vivo experiments. You will interact with the NMC groups involved in metabolite quantification and identification, and spend some time at the NMC Demonstration and Competence Lab in Leiden where the metabolomics experiments are performed. You will be appointed at the LACDR, and will be stationed bi-locally at Schering- Plough in Oss (approx 60-70% of the time) and at the project partners in Leiden and Zeist (30%-40%).

Profile of the candidate
The ideal candidate has a degree in bioinformatics with a strong proven interest in biology, or alternatively a degree in biology or biochemistry with skills in bioinformatics and/or biostatistics. We are looking for a candidate with excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work successfully with the project partners at Oss, Zeist, Leiden and Nijmegen.

OII Summer Doctoral Programme 2010, Oxford, UK

Hii.... Friends... i have new information about doctoral program from a friend in Oxford.
I am delighted to announce that we are accepting applications for the OII
Summer Doctoral Programme 2010.

OII SDP2010: Oxford (5-16 July 2010)

http://www.oii. ox.ac.uk/ teaching/ sdp/

The programme aims to stretch the thinking of all students on a range of issues, to provide valuable advice and support for students' thesis research, and to establish a peer network of excellent young researchers.

As in previous years, the programme will involve daily research seminars and panel sessions given by leading academics, with students having the opportunity to present their research to their peers in informal seminars.

Break-out sessions will allow groups to focus more narrowly on research questions of mutual interest, and time is made available for individual research and informal contact with tutors and fellow students. We will let you know as tutors and academic partners are confirmed.

Student feedback on the Summer Doctoral has always been overwhelmingly positive, and the SDP2010 promises to be yet another excellent year in this series. I hope you will consider applying, encourage your students to apply,

1. SDP2010: Apply / Deadline

------------ --------- --------- --------- --------- --

The SDP2010 Application Form is available on the website. The application process will close at 17:00 GMT on Monday 22 February 2010. Successful applicants will be notified by 1 April 2010.

Apply for the SDP2010:

http://www.oii. ox.ac.uk/ teaching/ sdp/

References will be requested from one or more of the students' current doctoral supervisors. All teaching will be in English, so all applicants should be able to demonstrate their competence in this language.

2. Candidates: What are we looking for?

------------ --------- --------- --------- --------- --

Up to 27 places are available, awarded on a competitive basis. Preference will be given to students at an advanced stage of their doctorate who have embarked on writing their thesis.

Like the course tutors, our SDP students come from a wide range of disciplinary backgrounds: computer science, sociology, law, etc. Whatever the background, the programme aims to facilitate deep discussion of both substantive and methodological research issues, and to help students frame
their research questions and direct their research.

As in other years, the SDP2010 will seek to generate dialogue and debate between students from different disciplinary backgrounds with a view to improving each student's doctoral thesis and identifying topics for future collaborative research. With these aims in mind, we are particularly keen to attract the most promising students who are prepared to engage with different disciplines, backgrounds and viewpoints.

PhD in a project called Advanced Laser Induced Subsurface Separation ALISS

Chair

The chair of Applied Laser Technology at Twente University is focusing on machines for the lasering of Materials. The physical aspects of laser material interaction with ultra short pulses are studied and processes are improved by sensoring and automation. The production of micro- and nano-structured surfaces with femto- and pico-second pulsed laser ablation is an emerging and promising technique for which continuously new applications are encountered that may result in completely new devices. It is e.g. applied to metal master surfaces that are subsequently reproduced by injection moulding, rolling or imprint methods. In general the results will contribute to bridging the micro-nano manufacturing gap. In addition to processes for material removal, mainly by ablation, attention is given to laser assisted material deposition of layers on a micro-scale.

Within this group there is a position for a

PhD in a project called Advanced Laser Induced Subsurface Separation ALISS

Background

As electronic packages shrink in size, integrated circuit packaged devices must be reduced both in footprint and thickness. The main motivation for the development of smaller packages is the demand for portable communication devices, such as memory cards, smart cards, cellular telephones and portable computing. One of the aspects of this tendency is that semiconductor dies and consequently wafers will be thinner, down to 20 µm. Below 200 µm separation introduces so much mechanical and thermal stress that the yield reduces to below economical acceptable levels. For efficiency of the use of silicium the sawing kerf-width should be reduced to 10-20 µm, a requirement that cannot be met by mechanical separation technologies. A possible direction for solving these problems is the use of laser modification of the semiconductor material in such a way that internal material modifications will act as breaking lines for the actual separation of the dies in the wafer. The first experiments in this direction have been done by industry and have shown that active laser control and focus control is essential to achieve precisely located material modifications. To further diminish the thermal and mechanical stress the use of ultra short laser pulses must be developed and the separation of the single dies must be developed to obtain good die strength and kerf edge quality

Project

The project focuses on research of a new cutting machine for cutting silicium with laser beams. The project is a cooperation between the University of Twente, Philips, TNO, CCM, Sioux, ALSI and VDL. The research of the group is mainly aimed at the possibilities of ultra short laser pulses. The ALISS project will develop the necessary technologies to make internal modification by multiple laser beams an enabling technology for the use of very thin and low–k wafers. As such the project will deliver a breadboard environment that will show that laser dicing is possible and that the technology can be transferred to an industrial production environment. The required laser and breaking processes will be developed as well as pre-prototypes for the execution of the processes

The ALISS project will show that material modification in semiconductor material can be effectively done with a multi-beam approach. This is essential as this unique feature will have a one on one relation with the productivity of the final system. Current approaches only use single beams and need to process dicing streets several times. The possibility to align dicing streets on the dice in stead of on the global wafer markers will make the ALISS concept robust to cope with the developments in assembly.

Profile

You have completed a master study in mechanical engineering, materials science, physics or equivalent You are proficient in spoken and written English. Background in laser technology is a plus. You have well developed social skills to co-operatively work in our research group as well as with the other partners in the project

Appointment and salary

We offer a challenging position at the interface between Applied Laser Technology and Mechanical Automation. You are offered a position for a period of 4 years. Your salary will be €2042.- gross per month for the first year, leading up to €2612,-gross per month in the 4th year, according to the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities. In addition, we offer our employees a broad package of secondary benefits.

Information and application
